Ok so full disclosure...I have a weakness for Goblin Kings.
With that said... I really really liked this!
I can't say that I loved it because I did have some issues with some things.
There were a few times that I thought it was trying too hard to add more music metaphors than needed. Honestly, by the end, I was sick of musical metaphors.
I also felt there was a disconnect from some of the characters in the beginning of the book and the end of the book.
But, overall I like it....a lot.
I enjoyed the story, the writing, and the characters. I loved the atmosphere of the Underground.
I think that is what kept me involved the most. I was just enthralled with the Underground.
I loved the changelings and the goblin attendants. I think Twig and Thistle were my favorite characters.
I didn't know until after I finished this book that it was inspired by the Jim Henson movie The Labyrinth (which is my favorite movie ever). I think knowing that makes me a little disappointed with it because I really didn't feel the connection with the movie other than there being a Goblin King. If anything I found this book to remind me more of the book Cruel Beauty (which I loved too).
I think this book, for its own merit, it worth the read.
So rumor has it that this is getting a sequel. I really really hope it does. I want to know what is going to happen next!
Ok, here is the bird. Honestly, so close to a 5 star...4.75
